PONDER OVER A FEW QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING A
GADGET FOR YOUR KITCHEN
Of late I was fascinated by the Air Fryer when
I saw it at a friend’s place. She used it to fry a few chicken nuggets almost
oil free! They were grilled well and looked as if they have been cooked on the
tandoor. Since then I decided to go for this new gadget in my kitchen.
I began to look for it online and browsed a few
things about it. There were so many videos and instructions on the types of air
fryers, their health benefits, sizes in which they are available and how-to
instructions on uses. Truly it was a bit confusing. The next question throbbing
in my head was how am I to fit the air fryer on the countertop already occupied
by other things? It seemed that the air fryer would take up some sizable space
on the kitchen counter for sure. It is neither a gadget to be plugged out nor
kept inside a kitchen cabinet again to be brought out if needed. In such a
case, it would just amount to a greater effort than the ease of using it.
A thought crossed my mind. How many gadgets am
I going to keep in the kitchen? I had a microwave which I am sure most urban
Indian kitchens have today. The next thing I was doing was browsing the
comparison between the microwave and an air fryer. It is then that I started
discovering the redundancy of the air fryer in my kitchen. I started to discover
a few grilling features in my convection microwave. These features were hardly
used to date simply as the microwave was more often used for reheating food.
I tried with my grilling effort on potato
wedges first. Wow! It came out crisp and crunchy after about a trial of
repeated grilling in 15 minutes with a 5
minutes gap to turn and brush them with oil. I patted myself. Next, I tried the
grill feature on chicken fingers. This time too with a gap of 5 minutes to turn
and brush them with oil. This too was a great success. This success story continued
with much other grill-worthy food stuff till I was convinced that I did not
need an air fryer.
I found my solution to crunchy, grilled
less-oiled snacks in the convection microwave oven. What about you?
Are you also planning to buy a new gadget for
your kitchen? Then a strong piece of advice from my end is here. Please do thorough
research before you buy anything. Think first, why do you need that gadget? Analyse
your answer well. Secondly, think if there is anything that you already possess
that can serve the same purpose. If the answer is a yes, then go ahead to discover
the use of the feature that serves your purpose. Thirdly, it is worth asking,
if your kitchen has enough space to keep that gadget handy. If not, then do
think twice about the ease of operation by moving it from one place to another.
We all can go ahead and purchase kitchen gadgets or any other. But a million-dollar question worth asking before that purchase is- Is it worth the purpose and ease of operation? It will save a lot of money and keep your kitchen clutter-free.
